POV: Me to Anthony Albanese

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOOUUUUUUU to give up on the social media ban.

To the Honourable Anthony Albanese PM,

I heard you were banning Social Media for under 16s. Don’t you know that social media is actually an important part of our lives? We can socialize, interact and create on the internet. Taking it away from us is like taking the land away from a poor country. There are many many cons of your social media ban. Let me just tell you ten of them:

  1. Socialising: A lot of people in Australia are introverts. We need social media so these introverts have someone to talk to. I used to be one, too. I was very scared of talking to people because 1. They might kidnap me and 2. I might be bullied for what I like. It was very hard for me to find a friend. But then, when I was 7 years old, I found out about YouTube. I started chatting with people in the comments and they were pretty friendly to me. I only got bullied a few times just because I liked things that Gen alpha liked.

  2. Community: LGBTQ people tend to get a lot of hate when they talk to people in real life. Why? Because people think they are not normal people since they switch genders and don’t stay the same. Same with neurodivergent people (autism or ADHD). Autistic people get mistaken with people with Down-Syndrome mainly because people think they are the same thing. Stereotypically talking, both ugly and stupid. This is not true. I want people to get included in everything that is good. If you are taking social media away from us, these people are unlikely to have friends.
