THE Time It GOT Too Dark TO See
(Or To Hear)
Day passes, night falls, night passes, day comes, day passes, night falls, night passes, day comes. An endless cycle. However, one peculiar night, little Elizabeth sleepwalks into the woods and is met with nothing but herself and a collection of odd things and occurrences. She waits and she waits, but this seems to be an infinite night.
Chapter One
The small town Gothandshire was notorious for its strange happenings. All had happened at the dead of night, during the witching hour. It was even named after a strange hand that would seemingly sprout out of the ground known as a Gothand. Young Elizabeth lived in a cozy cottage at the edge of the village. The only way of knowing it was there was to watch the smoke billowing out of the brick chimney. Many believed it wasn’t there. Down in eastern Saltcliffe, near the Gothandshire daytime markets, there was a rumour that Elizabeth’s mother was a time turner, and her father was a master of illusions. Some wondered what would become of Elizabeth in the future.
Chapter Two
Night-time had fallen, and everything was still. Only Elizabeth was awake. She could hear her mother and her father sleeping peacefully, and her cat purring on the wooden rocking chair given to her by her grandmother. Her pillow felt as hard as a rock and her mattress felt too soft. Later in the night, she closes her eyes and tries to ignore the strange eye on her wall. It had appeared there when Elizabeth was out at the markets once, but nothing was known that would cause it. Eventually, sleep came.
Chapter Three
The wind blew outside. Elizabeth half opened her eyes. She pulled her covers off and stood up, almost losing her balance. She opened her door while staring back at the creepy eye and walked out. Her mother spotted her.
“Honey, why are you up?” she asked.
Elizabeth replied, “I don’t know. I just felt that I needed to go outside.”
Mother looked worried, almost scared.
“Honey, you know you mustn’t leave the house at night. Something could catch you! Something could hurt you!”
Elizabeth didn’t respond.
