Daily Life With My Cat
I live alone in a city rental and keep a calico cat, who has become my steady companion through mundane days.
Every weekday morning, it waits on my pillow before my alarm, patting my cheek gently to rouse me. After I stroke its head, it squats quietly by its bowl, waiting for food. It naps in the sun by the window while I’m at work, and by the time I unlock the door after work, it’s already waiting at the entrance, rubbing against my ankles to urge me to play with it.
In the evening, it claims my delivery box as its new nest the second I open it. When I work, it lies quietly by my feet; when I take out the cat teaser, it springs into action as a nimble little hunter. When tired, it flops over with its belly up, waiting for me to rub it. At bedtime, it curls up by my feet instead of crowding my pillow. Neither of us needs anything from the other—we simply keep each other company, turning every ordinary day into a peaceful, comfortable life.
